About the course

This course is designed to prepare you for a professional future in music performance and production. Emphasising creative exploration and experimentation, you will be encouraged to play, build confidence, and engage in research, idea generation and reflection as you develop your projects. The goal is to equip you with a blend of creative and technical skills that are crucial for a successful career in the music industry.

Course content

The curriculum includes modules that span a wide range of music creation and production. 
You will learn to create your own music using industry-standard software such as Ableton for music and audio production. A key focus of the course is to equip you with a diverse skill set, covering everything from using music studios and software to understanding the fundamentals of music theory and composition. 

Additionally, you will have opportunities to participate in live performance projects including our end of year Summer gig with a live audience, and will be encouraged to learn and play at least one musical instrument, further enhancing your versatility as a musician.

What do I need to join
At least four grade 4s or above including an English or Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above or A relevant Level 2 Diploma and an English or Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above (or Functional Skill Level 2)
What can I do next

Completing this course opens up a diverse range of career opportunities and progression pathways. The skills you develop - such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical making - are highly transferable, offering flexibility in your career options. 

You could pursue freelance work or join a studio or professional organisation, with potential roles including musician, audio designer, technician, producer, director or in music management. Additionally, the skills you gain may lead you to fields such as teaching, art therapy or curation. 
The course equips you with a strong foundation for various creative careers, providing you with numerous possibilities for your future.

While we hope to offer this course in the upcoming academic year, its availability may be subject to change following the conclusion of the review in December 2024. Should this course be unavailable, an equivalent course will be offered.
