What is the Chase?

The CHASE is part of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and provides a dedicated, self-contained educational resource in the Stroud Valleys. The Chase offers a five-day Specialist Provision, supporting young people (16-18 and 19-25) who have high support needs. The provision is committed to providing learners with an inclusive curriculum and the emotional and personal support to enable them to achieve and to make progress on pathways that are tailored to meet individual needs. The pathways will focus on improving skills for independent living, social communication, and gaining the skills required to prepare for work or further education.

Learners are supported by SEND-experienced Tutors and a learning support team as they work towards their aspirations and the outcomes in their individual EHCP. Our ethos is to positively embrace therapies that work collaboratively to remove barriers to learning and independence. Learners benefit from their own bespoke therapy package, which is continuously monitored and adapted to their needs. Depending on individual needs, the therapy package could include support from a Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Therapy dog, and have daily access to a sensory room and garden.

Our overarching ethos is that we want all of our learners to make excellent progress. We provide access to a comprehensive learning programme that enables them to achieve and where appropriate, to work towards a qualification. We also focus on building important skills that help the transition into independent living, the world of work, and help them achieve their full potential.

Personalised support - Learners will have access to a personal tutor and support as identified in their Educational Health and Care Plan. The Chase has a dedicated team with experience in delivering aspirational and innovative learning to students with high support needs.

At the CHASE we offer a holistic and unique provision that develops skills, confidence, resilience, and self-esteem within an inclusive curriculum. The provision includes a training kitchen, life skills rooms where learners can gain confidence and skills in independent living and learn to manage confidently in the home. Staff will also work with learners to access the local community and support work experience in line with their aspirations. We recognize that every individual is unique, so each pathway is adapted to suit the young person's specific needs in line with their EHCP outcomes and following the Preparing for Adulthood Framework.

PATHWAY 2: Preparing for work skills

Learners will also have the opportunity to take part in internal/external work experience and work towards a work skills qualification if appropriate. With a strong focus on personal/social development and work skills, this pathway is well placed to support learners who wish to develop their employability skills to enable them to progress onto paid or voluntary work.
