Summary
The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media Make-up is an innovative two-year course for artists wishing to pursue a career in the Make-up industry. If you have an interest in make-up or a strong artistic ability this specialist qualification will equip you with the knowledge and understanding and skills working towards employment in the creative industries and degree study. Merging your make-up skills and creative art practice, this course will enable you to express your creativity through make-up projects linked to industry contexts, and developing your art and design techniques. Make-up looks produced will range from Editorial Photographic contexts, Fashion to Avant Garde, through casualty FX and prosthetics, to character make-up and hair designs for stage or screen. Professional make-up studios and art workshops are utilised to deliver the course, with opportunities for collaborations with related industry students and experts across media make-up and other creative disciplines within the College. The course content across the two years study offers very broad and exciting creative possibilities.
What do I need to join?
You will need to show passion, enthusiasm and commitment and have a portfolio of work to show at interview. You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and/or Maths, or a Level 2 Diploma in Art Design with merit or distinction grades, and a proven record of attendance and engagement in English and Maths.
Maths & English
A key requirement for obtaining many jobs is to achieve a good standard of English and Maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (C) will be enrolled on either a GCSE or functional skills programme alongside their course.
Work Experience
It is vital that you gain work experience in this area through voluntary work or part-time employment to give you greater insight into the industry. You will also be involved in live projects within the College, and any college led external placement opportunities.
What can I do next?
You may go on to Degree studies in ‘Specialist Make-up Design’ or begin your career in entry level roles within the industry.
