Information Dates and EnrolmentSummary
This course will give you the opportunity to develop your own personal practice and gain experience by playing with and testing materials and processes that are involved in making with clay. Your tutor Gina Baum will give demonstrations and one-to-one guidance, allowing you to work at your own pace, using the processes you enjoy the most. She will support the development and planning of projects, how to use sketchbooks and application of inspirations and experimental outcomes to realise ideas. You will be encouraged to research Ceramics that surround you, both in everyday domestic use and decorative contemporary sculpture to help explore the use of textures and surface finishes within your own designs. Throughout the course there will be opportunities for short group discussions on historic and contemporary ceramic artists, display and presentation of work and aesthetic choices etc to broaden knowledge and explore new ideas and techniques.
Entry Requirements
Prior ceramics experience is recommended for this course. Ideally you will have completed at least one term in the Beginners or Intermediates Ceramics course or have equivalent experience. (Students new to ceramics maybe considered for this course if availability or timings of alternative courses are unavailable, please enquire via email prior to starting date) Please come prepared by bringing a protective shirt to wear during studio sessions. Additionally, remember to bring a notebook and pen to record your ideas and technical details. It is also beneficial to bring inspirational materials such as photos and examples of your previous work to fuel your creativity. There will be an opportunity to be involved with the end of year show at SGS Stroud including curating and showing of work. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age at the start of the academic year, to attend this course.

Course fees explained
The course fee is usually broken down into three components which are materials (resources required to study the course, for example stationery, books and other equipment), tuition (teaching, classroom etc) and exams. Depending on age, financial circumstances and a number of other factors, you could be asked to pay the full fee or just elements of it. Usually Learners under 19 studying Full-Time courses have just material fees, and if relevant, Academy fees, to pay. Over 19s on Full-Time or Part-Time courses usually have materials, exams and tuition fees to pay.
