Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

The focus of the qualification is the role and scope of a Personal Trainer. This programme offers breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge in the health and fitness industry. The programme design combines both face to face and online learning delivery methods creating a flexible and workable part-time course. Learners successfully completing this qualification will be able to gain access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 3 and CIMSPA. The qualification will help learners to find employment as a personal trainer in the fitness industry. It aims to promote good practice in personal training by working to a common standard which is nationally recognised. Learners taking this qualification will study six units: Applied anatomy and physiology for activity, health and fitness Client motivation and lifestyle management Programming personal training sessions Delivering personal training sessions Nutrition to support a physical activity programme Business acumen for personal trainers The qualification will provide you with an insight into the skills and knowledge you require for working within the personal training sector. Many of the units covered will allow for transferrable skills and knowledge to be enhanced, such as marketing strategies, business development, and client lifestyle considerations. Once you have successfully completed this qualification, you will be able to gain access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 3 and CIMSPA, which will enhance your prospects for employment, aiding you to apply your newly founded abilities and knowledge. SGS College Sports Department have strong working relationships with a variety of health and fitness professional and industries within the local community. These include leisure centres, health clubs, and the nationally renowned SGS College Sports Academies Strength and Conditioning provision.

How will I learn?

This course is based at our dynamic and exciting WISE Campus in Stoke Gifford. Located within easy reach of the city of Bristol and moments away from Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood train stations. The programme will incorporate a range of internal assessment methods, including written assignments, portfolio of evidence, presentations, video evidence, practical assessment and internal examinations. You will receive online learning materials and an induction video, two weeks before the start of the programme. These materials must be completed prior to the delivery start date. The online learning materials will provide you with key underpinning knowledge preparing you for course delivery.

Entry Requirements

It is a course requirement that learners will have completed the L2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing before enrolling on this course. You must be aged 19+ to complete this course. There is no upper age limit for this course.
