Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

SGS College’s Media Department, Bristol Academy of Media, have an exciting opportunity for a Media Lecturer, specialising in Film & TV, based at our Wise Campus. 

Bristol Academy of Media is housed in the new, state-of-the-art Brunel Centre, which is well equipped with a professional TV Studio, a large bank of high-quality audio-visual equipment, 5 Mac suites, 2 Games Design studios, and Esports studio. We are looking to appoint a dynamic Lecturer to join the BAM team, which has engaging and inspiring courses at Levels 1-3 in Film & TV Production, Sports Media, Games Design, and Animation & Visual Effects, as well as two Degree-level programmes.  

The successful applicant will lead and deliver on our highly successful vocational Level 3 Film & TV Production programme. Candidates should be passionate about, and possess outstanding knowledge of, video production techniques and film studies, and be able to impart this passion and enthusiasm in our learners. A recognised teaching qualification is not essential, but candidates without one will be expected to work towards one once in post.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Course Leadership of the Film & TV Production provision
  • Internal Quality Assurance and organisation of the qualification, reporting to the Learning Area Manager
  • Personal Tutor for learners
  • To undertake all forms of pedagogic work which may include classroom teaching, tutorial work and associated outreach duties, residential, open and distance learning courses and student placements.
  • To ensure the associated organisational and administrative work, preparation and marking is undertaken.
  • To provide the appropriate student welfare and academic/non-academic counselling responsibilities.
  • To undertake an annual teaching workload of contact hours for category ‘A’ duties of 828 maximum to 761 minimum (pro rata for part-time) as detailed in the College workload agreement.
  • To conduct curriculum development work including identification of consumer requirements, planning, development and evaluation of courses and course materials.
  • To ensure the administration and management of subjects/units/modules of education and training, or of significant facets or subdivision of these, is carried out.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree-level or higher in a discipline relevant to Media/Film & TV Production
  • Experience of teaching in a further/higher education environment – beneficial but not essential
  • Industry experience working in the media/film/television field
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE / PCET / DET) – beneficial but not essential
