Learners gain six week volunteer programme at SS Great Britain

Four students currently studying Travel and Tourism have gained a six week volunteer programme at the prestigious SS Great Britain.

The learners from South Gloucestershire and Stroud College are all in their second year of an Extended Diploma and are very excited to start. It is the first time an internship has been offered at the Bristol based landmark.

Commencing at the end of March, the students will be carrying out many duties including welcoming visitors, offering information about the ship as well as general day to day jobs.

Emily Poulter, Volunteer Administrator and Visitor Services Volunteer commented: "The first part of the year is always a busy time for us in the volunteering team, and we are very excited to be taking on four brilliant students from SGS College. They will be with us over the summer months, when we are at our busiest with visitors, helping with various activities and events on site during their shifts. We hope that they will enjoy their volunteering with us, and that it encourages others to apply.”

18 year old Emily Smart is one of the students about to embark on this exciting new adventure. She said: “I am really looking forward to working on an attraction and to get an experience of working within the travel and tourism industry. I am also looking forward to learning more about the history of the ship.”
