Five apprentices hired at Milestones Trust

Milestones, a Bristol-based charity that supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and dementia, has hired five new apprentices to work in their care homes.

The apprenticeship scheme was started at the organisation to encourage younger people to work in the sector and to teach them best practice. Working alongside South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, all of the apprentices are working towards a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Angela Roberts, Director of HR at Milestones, says: "The scheme is a great way to encourage people who want to take up vocational learning rather than solely following the academic route to a career."

The students take part in formal learning sessions with the college and rest of the time get hands-on training at the home they have been allocated to.

Lori Jones, aged 20 from Stapleton comments: "I've settled in really quickly. I like knowing that I'm making a difference and spending time with the residents."

Elaine Eldridge, Apprenticeship Programme Manager, added: “All of the apprentices are progressing really well with their apprenticeships, and we have received some wonderful feedback from their managers regarding how they are developing in their roles and supporting the residents.”
