Training to become England’s next Rugby Union stars

Talented academy students, Blake Boyland and Jack Bates were selected to participate in the England U18’s Development Camp, 24 October, at SGS WISE Campus.

Speaking about the experience Blake said:

“This is my second time on the development camp and just like the one before, this camp was really good. The training is intense and there are high expectations but this really makes you raise your game.”

Jack added:

“I always get a lot out of the camp, both as an individual and as part of a team. It was very productive. It's also a great way to get all the players together for the U18 Six Nations, and get to know your team mates."

Speaking about their experience at SGS Blake said:

“I decided to study at SGS because of the stellar reputation of the rugby academy and the fact I could combine training with the course I wanted to study. The facilities are really good, the coaching is great and they offer students a lot of support to reach their potential. My time at SGS should set me up to do what I really want to do, which is play rugby, but I'd also be happy to be a coach."

Jack commented:

“I didn't want to go to sixth form as I preferred the freedom and respect you get from both the staff and students at SGS. The standards are high and I've improved a lot. If you put in the work you are rewarded. Everyone's very supportive which helps. You also benefit from having options how to spend your spare time, like studying in the LRC or training in the gym.”
