Plumbing and Electrical Department enjoy off site experiences

First year level 3 Plumbing students visited domestic heating and hot water products manufacturer, Worcester Bosch, Tuesday 8th December, for a training day with the company’s boiler experts.

The 14 students were shown how to install and service a number of Worcester Bosch boilers, helping towards their achievement of the EAL level 3 Apprenticeship programme.

The students saw at close quarters how the modern, highly technical, Worcester Bosch boilers are constructed. The students were then able to see the extensive testing Worcester Bosch carried out to ensure their boilers are of the highest quality. The afternoon was spent participating in hands on experiences with the products, where the students learnt how to service and carry out maintenance on the Worcester Bosch boilers.

That same week, two groups of second year electricians visited the College’s Berkeley Campus to see how development of the site and the new campus is progressing.

In addition to student trips, Dave Quinton, Head of Plumbing and Electrical participated in a Worcester Bosch staff Open Day, Monday 7th December.  Over 1,300 people attended the event to discover what the company’s training department offered its staff. David was at the event, informing staff of what they could achieve by undertaking a college course. Of the 87 college training partners, SGS College was the only college at the event.

Dave comments: “The open day was a brilliant opportunity for the College. Worcester Bosch staff really enjoyed the day. It was a great showcase of what we do across all campuses.

“We were also able to show staff the new development at Berkeley, where the company are having a training centre built.”
