Be on your ‘A’ Game with SGS College – Your First Opportunity to Pick Your A Level Options for September 2019

On Wednesday 26 September, SGS College’s Sixth Form Centre opens its doors to potential applicants for 2019.

2018 was a fantastic year for SGS College’s AS cohort with results 4% above the national average. Students made exceptional progress in many subjects, notably English and Maths where high grades (A*/A/B) were 58% and 53%. AS pass rates were above 90% in many subjects.

A Level pass rates (A*-E) were equally strong at 97% with impressive high grade performance in many subjects, including Politics (80% A*/A/B), English Language (69% A*/A/B), Economics (62% A*/A/B) and Physical Education (58% A*/A/B). Facilitating subjects, which are most commonly required or preferred by leading universities, gained a 99% pass rate.

SGS offers a wide range of subjects across five pathways, each tailored to support your career progression, incorporating Professional Services, Creative Communications, Humanities, STEM and Life Sciences. We have outstanding students who make exceptional progress, many of whom have gone on to some of the UK’s most prestigious universities, including Oxford, Bristol and Southampton.

Callum Fitzgerald

As in previous years, Callum Fitzgerald was ecstatic to receive his results, achieving A grades in Maths, Physics and Economics, and an A in AS Further Maths. Callum is now a step closer to achieving his dream of becoming an investment banker with a place at Nottingham University.

“I’ve always wanted to go to one of the UK’s top universities as I want to become an investment banker
When I was younger my brother gave me a book, The Undercover Economist, and it really spoke to me. I've always loved maths so working in finance seemed like the perfect fit.

"The teaching at SGS has been really good. They really cared and supported us.

“I feel so relieved. I couldn't sleep the night before results day. It's great that I can now stop worrying. I’m really happy with my results."

Elliott Burgess

Elliott moved house just before starting his A Levels. Although he was nervous about starting at a new college, he quickly felt at home with SGS. Elliott achieved an A* in Maths, A in Physics, B in Chemistry and an A in AS Further Maths, securing his place at Southampton University.

“I moved to Bristol just before starting A Levels so I didn’t know anybody. I chose to study at SGS because it was highly recommended to me and to my surprise I quickly made loads of friends.

“All my teachers have been there for me. Especially my maths teachers. Their teaching style and support was amazing, it definitely works and makes for a great atmosphere to work in!

“Even though I would have loved to get an A in chemistry I wasn't expecting an A in physics so I’m still very happy.”

Aimee Palmer

Football star Aimee Palmer achieved an A grade in psychology, a B in Biology and a C in Chemistry. Aimee is now heading off to the University of Salford.

“I felt nervous the morning I collected my results but I'm really happy now I’ve got them.

“Before visiting SGS I always had the dream of training as a professional footballer whilst being able to take part in A Level study. SGS enabled my dreams to come true, gaining a valuable education whilst excelling in my sport at the same time.”
