Apprentices Secure Placements at Bristol Zoo
An Electrical and a Carpentry apprentice from SGS College (Formerly Filton College) have both successfully landed apprenticeship placements at Bristol Zoo.
George Strange, 18, from Staple Hill, is in his second year of a two year course studying Electrical Level 3 at SGS College. Nick Hale, 18, from Horfield, is in his second year studying Level 2 Carpentry after completing Level 1 with Distinction. Both Apprentices will now spend four days per week undertaking maintenance and repair work at Bristol Zoo. They will also spend one day per week refining and learning new skills at College.
George Comments: “It’s amazing I’ve been able to secure such a great apprenticeship placement. Dave my electrical teacher told me about it and I went for interview and got offered the position.
“I really enjoy College and studying Electrical. I would recommend Apprenticeships to others unsure of the benefits of the Apprenticeship programme. It can be challenging to find a placement but the real work experience combined with studies make people an attractive person to employers.”
Nick Comments: “Carpentry is really good fun. I’m so happy to have secured work at Bristol Zoo. I really hope I am able to continue working at the Zoo in the Future. Some of the animals can be quite scary but I guess that comes with the job.”
