Sarah Greenman

My Name is Sarah Greenman, I am originally from Cinderford and have lived in the area all of my life.

I was a previous student at Heywood School now named Forest Academy. I left in 2003 with 14 GCSE's with the intention of following my life long career ambition of becoming a Hairdresser. As well as working in a salon in Drybrook every Saturday I attended College where I completed my Level 2 and 3 Hairdressing qualification.

I continued to work in the salon and focused on Bridal hair for Weddings as my passion was 'hair up'. I came across a job advertisement for a Trainee College Lecturer in the Stroud Area and questioned if I had the ability or skills to apply. I took the challenge and I have spent the last 6 years being fully supported by the SGS College Hair and Beauty Department.

I have not only been given the opportunity to work as a team, but also to complete my Teacher Training degree alongside a teaching and learning environment. I truly love my job and feel I would not of achieved a grade one teacher status if it wasn't for the supportive and friendly staff and management here at College. Literacy and Numeracy is a large focus related to my job role which I have continued to develop over time, becoming aware that these skills are imperative throughout my adult life in both personal and professional development; not just for passing exams. It is vital to understand the importance and impact of the learning process starting at school to ensure you are focused on the career opportunities available to you. You must never underestimate your ability and your determination to strive and become part of a industry you love and continue to develop yourself through life long learning.
